Environmental Policy Statement


Midlands Truck & Van are the approved Mercedes-Benz commercial vehicle dealership representing the West Midlands, Northamptonshire, Lincolnshire, Cambridgeshire, Buckinghamshire and Bedfordshire areas.

The company will control its activities in such a manner to avoid causing unnecessary or unacceptable damage to the environment as far as is practicable. The importance of this objective is given equal status with other essential business aspect and has received endorsement at senior management level.

The care and protection of the environment is a core company responsibility and is fundamental to the Group Health & Safety policy & procedures.

It is the policy of the company to employ certificated & licensed waste disposal contractors so as to ensure the highest standards of waste disposal under local authority supervision.

Holders of waste should take all reasonable steps to prevent its release, discharge, escape or movement out of their custody except by transfer to an authorised person or company approved waste contractor.

The company will continually review systems that encourage the re-use, re-cycling or recovery of waste materials.

Storage of mineral oil/diesel/cleaning agents in drums should be on spill control pallets, on a level & impermeable surface away from all drains. In addition such areas should have sufficient quantities of spillage response equipment. Bulk storage of oil or diesel should be stored in proprietary storage tanks that are preferably double skinned & sited away from surface drains.

Employees must be made aware of the location of spillage control materials & trained in the action to take in the event of a spillage.

Management Responsibility To achieve this goal the Company will:

  • Comply fully with all relevant environmental legislation, codes of practice, guidance and industry best practice.
  • Provide a framework for setting Environmental objectives and continual improvement of our EMS to enhance our performance.
  • Develop environmental awareness and individual responsibility at all levels throughout the organisation.
  • Encourage full and effective consultation on environmental matters with our employees.
  • Provide appropriate training on environmental issues where a need for such training is identified.
  • Prevent nuisance to the local community and to avoid damage to the environment.
  • Reclaim and recycle materials and substances used in the commercial vehicle industry wherever possible so to ensure the conservation of raw materials such as engine oil, oil filters, tyres, metals and obsolete batteries.
  • Dispose of any waste arising from our business activities in the most environmentally acceptable way possible.
  • Service and maintain our customer’s vehicles in such a way that they operate at maximum efficiency and give optimum fuel consumption.
  •  Routinely monitor our environmental performance to ensure we achieve these objectives and effect further improvements wherever the audit may identify.


Employees are required to follow all relevant procedures, codes of practice & guidelines, reporting any matter likely to present an environmental risk to Management.

The policy & supporting arrangements will be subject to regular Senior Management review to ensure their effectiveness & that its listed objectives remain appropriate for the business.
